So...I met my goal. I have the body of my steampunk tailcoat together, including the lining! I left my good camera at school, so these pics are from my webcam and aren't the greatest. Anyway...

The pics are horrible, but oh well. I'll try to remember to get my camera on Wednesday when I'm up in LA for the day. So...the costume consists of a light brown suede corset (there are some better pictures of it in my earlier entry) with a zipper up the front. You can only really see this in the first picture, but I'm working on binding the edges of the corset in dark brown (real!) leather. The tailcoat is a really beautiful bluish grey dull satin. It's lined with the same material, and the collar is a poly fabric in a matching color that has textured stripes woven in, which you can't see in these pictures at all. I'm so proud of this outfit so far! I have to make a design decision on the sleeves though. I was going to put short sleeves on, but I kind of like it as a vest. If I leave it sleeveless, the next decision is whether or not to finish the sleeves. It fits my character to leave them frayed, but I dunno...Lots left to do on this outfit though. Bind corset, put buttons on jacket, make pants, spay paint/rub n buff plastic accessories, make leather accessories...yah, lots still to do. And I still have two other cosplays that haven't been started yet.

In other news, MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! Hope it was lovely for you too. I'm also really looking forward to the sewing party this Sunday. I will be there for sure! I'll probably bring the steampunk pants and Liz from soul eater to work on.

Just a quick little update. I got the boots I ordered for Hungary! And they look really awesome. I feel very bad ass when I wear them. :D

A few years ago my dad was talking about how fun it would be to create completely nonsense fortune cookies that had a sense of humor. My favorite? "Your future is as bright as a peach pit." Come on, how much fun would that be?

Gah, I'm being ridiculous and posting every day...the corset is 97% done. I just need to get some bias tape to bind the edges.

The shrug is just something I threw on because it has a similar drape to the jacket I'll be making. Doesn't look half bad, though.

Please, please, PLEASE NO!!

I honestly had really high high hopes for this movie. I was at the panel at Comic-Con and heard Mike and Brian say that it was going to be very like the series and that they were really happy with it. Perhaps that was just complete BS. Because honestly, I really can't see this movie being made well with these characters.

The first issue is of race. One of the most amazing (and unique!) things about Avatar was the diversity. There are Asians, people with different skintones, etc. I honestly think that this is one of the many reasons it's a popular thing to cosplay from...almost everyone can find someone they resemble and can pull off.

But really, I'm more worried about the quality of the acting. I honestly just can't see Jesse McCartney playing Zuko. I really can't. Especially since Zuko is pretty whiny/kinda annoying in the first season. I'd like to see someone who can add hints of Zuko's later transition and give early!Zuko some depth. I feel like this casting is being geared toward the younger set (as I read on someone else's journal, "the High School Musical crowd") and that really PISSES ME OFF!

I am a die hard fan of the show. I've cosplayed. I've watched every episode at least once. I know plotlines and quotes by heart. Hell, I want to learn Tai Chi because it's what waterbending was based on. And to think that some suits who think they'll get more money because people will come see it for Jesse and that guy from Twilight, well, I'm sorry. I won't be one of them. I refuse to give money to this. I'd much rather be ignorant of the movie if it's going to totally destroy everything I love about the show.

I'd also like to direct everyone who cares to this livejournal post: ali-wildgoose.livejournal.com/368355.html. As soon as my finals are done I'm writing a letter and sending it in. I still don't think it'll make a difference, but I'm just cynical like that. At least I'll feel like I did something.
